At the Ray Domenico Farm stand, I got lacinato kale, raw quinoa, and dandelion greens for $2.75 each – a total steal.

Have you ever seen raw quinoa? I hadn’t before. I was told by the owner that you can cook raw quinoa much like spinach, so I’m intending to try that out tonight or tomorrow night.

At the McCurry Farm stand, I got 2 pounds of English peas for $6.00 and a dozen eggs for $3.00.  In my vow to get more peas than I did last time, I think I might have given an old lady the evil eye when she tried to jump in front of me to get at the peas… but she should know better than to get in the way of a woman and some fresh english peas. Honestly!

At The Fruit Stand, I got a pound of Rainier cherries for $5.00 – it was all I could do to restrain myself! I have too many ideas floating around in my head of what to do with them… but mostly they are in danger of just being eaten fresh. I can’t promise I’ll exercise restraint.

At Full Circle Farms, I got a bunch of kohlrabi for $3.00, 2 pounds of favas for $6.00 and a few garlic scapes for $2.00. When I asked the owner if the basket contained scapes, he was all, “you win a prize for identifying the most unidentifiable vegetable here!” I kept waiting for him to give me Robert Pattinson tied up with a big bow, but he never did. What a CHEATER.

Speaking of Farmer’s Markets, I’m going to be participating in Kelly’s Market Week 2009 challenge over at EatMakeRead. Her idea, which is totally brillz, is to buy all of your groceries at a farmer’s market or CSA, or supplement your groceries with veggies from your own garden. I’m even making a special trip up to the Boulder Farmer’s Market for that week.
